Forgeworld Package!

I arrived at the office to find a package from Forgeworld on my desk. I’m always excited when these brown boxes arrive. The first reason is that it’s not work (yea! any distraction is a good thing!), and secondly it’s usually been so long I’ve completely forgotten my order. That makes Forgeworld packages like a gift that senile aunt on your mother’s side that can’t remember your actual birthday (or remotely remember your actual age).

Opening it, I discovered Imperial Armour Volume Six: The Siege of Vraks - Part Two.

When I cracked open the book I got two surprises — a decent sized double-sided poster and an autograph from Warwick Kinrade, the author. Very neat!

Of course my first action was to skip past the amazing story and beautiful full-color graphics to peak at the new units. This is the exact same thing I do every time I get my hands on a new Imperial Armour book. It’s become a ritual with me. An extremely satisfying ritual.

I’ll give you a quick rundown and save my actual review for a later post.

  1. KRIEG ENGINEER SQUAD. This is a small Imperial Guard Troops unit (something that IG can really use). It’s a fairly cheap unit, but it has the option of adding Gas Grenades (neat mechanic, but too pricey) and Mole Launchers (which will be lots of fun on the table).
  2. HADES BREACHING DRILL. Taking a Engineer squad gives you the option of taking a Breaching Drill. It’s a cheap Troops choice that deploys using modified Deep Strike rules. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun on the table (and a gorgeous model). I predict this is going to be a favorite with IG players.
  3. MACHARIUS VULCAN. No changes (that I can spot) from the released rules. One of my favorite tanks until GW released the rules for the Stormlord.
  4. REAVER BATTLE TITAN. This bad boy is nasty and can put down more square inches of Strength D damage than anything I could’ve imagined. It’s a lot less expensive than I expected too!
  5. RED SCORPIONS TACTICAL SQUAD. This one was a pleasant surprise! They have all of the new Space Marine rules and they can upgrade their Sergeants to Apothecaries (with the new Narthecium rules)! Wow! Good bye Relictors. Hello Red Scorpions!
  6. SIEGE DREADNOUGHT. No changes I can spot; I still need to get one of these.
  7. CHAPLAIN DREADNOUGHT. I love the idea of a Chaplain Dreadnought, but it’s a bit pricey for what you get - I expected to see an extra attack or two.
  8. SERVANTS OF SLAUGHTER ARMY LIST. This is a cool list that feels like a Khorne-themed Lost and the Damned army. It’s definitely worth giving a spin.
  9. MALCADOR. I have one of these too (and it’s lovely). I was hoping that they’d lower the price a tad, but no luck. I think the Malcador Defender is my favorite IG tank — appearance-wise.
  10. DREADCLAW ASSAULT POD. They did a good job of the rules on the Dreadclaw. If I had a few I’d use them in every game, lol.
  11. HELL TALON AND HELL BLADE. I’ll have to compare these to their old rules to see what’s changed, but I know some stuff is different (I don’t remember the Hell Talon having 8 free bombs, for example). Given the option, you’ll never see a Hell Blade (unless I’m reading it wrong) - the Hell Talon seems a lot better.
  12. CHAOS DREADNOUGHT, CHAOS RHINO, CHAOS PREDATOR, CHAOS VINDICATOR, CHAOS LAND RAIDER. Doesn’t seem to be any changes, but I’ll look closer later (e.g., the Land Raider has a transport capacity of 10).
  13. CHAOS WARHOUND. I’ll have to compare this one too (it has a Dirge Caster, but no other changes that I can spot).

Overall it looks like it’s going to be a GREAT book and I can’t wait to read it! I’ll give a further review once I’m done. If you have any questions, post them as comments!
