New Bling: Mino

I just picked up a new pice of BoLS bling — a Flip Video Mino. It’s an iPod-sized video camera that is going to change the way I make video and I hope that it’s going to bring some new fun to the Flywire.
A buddy of mine, Trey Ratcliff (you can check out his amazing photography at Stuck In Customs), recommended it and I just love it. It’s relatively inexpensive (~$150 on Amazon) and takes pretty decent video (640x480 MPEG4). It has a 2GB internal drive that can hold up to 60 minutes of video. It has a cool little interface (a USB “switch blade” that pops out at the touch of a button) to hook up to your computer (which is also the only way to charge the 4-hour lithium-ion battery and transfer video to your computer).
The power-up time is about 4 seconds, which is fast enough to catch just about anything you might want to record. The 2x digital zoom could be better (and image stabilization would be sweet), but the video quality is great — especially if you plan on uploading it to the web. The built-in software can upload directly to MySpace, YouTube or AOL, so it’s great for family video (more on that when I play around with it).
So what’s the WH40K tie-in? Well, I hope to start uploading some snippets from our games so you may get some battle report video! How cool would that be?
I’m spending the weekend at the Austin City Limits music festival (www.aclfest.com), so you won’t hear much from me unless I have enough beer to try updating the site from my phone again. If you haven’t heard about ACL, it’s a 3-day music fest that pretty much shuts down the city — it’s a great time and if you haven’t been, you should go!
Note: You’ll notice that none of these links generate any income for me (no referring or affiliate links) — I just really dig the device and plan on using it. A lot!
