David Blaine’s “Dive of Death (of Magician’s Career)”

(Sorry, I know this has nothing to do with WH40K but I have to say SOMETHING!)
Did anyone stay up tonight and watch the David Blaine special? Instead of doing one of a dozen things that I need to do (like update the Flywire or get the Army of Death mini-dex done or respond to your emails asking for tips and tricks), I got sucked into a David Blaine special.
The whole thing led up to the “Dive of Death” — where he was supposed to do the most dangerous stunt of his career. Something that could never be repeated. So at the end of the show, they raised him to the top of a 44 foot scaffold and..
…drumroll please…
He jumped off with a clearly visible harness/cable attached that slowly lowered him to the stage. Then (with a grimace on his face) he was slowly lifted into the air where the cameras intentionally lost track of him. The stunned announcer floundered with the script, saying how amazing it was that he disappeared.
The crowd seemed very disappointed (and I thought I could hear booing); no applause and almost instant milling about. I usually get a kick out of his programs (and I love the street magic stuff), but this was a very strange, Andy Kaufman-esque ending.
I can only assume that something went wrong. Am I missing something? Did any of you see it? Can you please, please, please explain it to me?
UPDATE: According to an internet poster, David Blaine appeared on Regis & Kelly this morning and admitted that the stunt went wrong. The balloons were supposed to carry him away faster but something was wrong with the winds. Or something.
