‘Ard Boyz List: TMCs

This is a pretty traditional Nidzilla list that I’ve used in tournaments over the years. There are only a few small changes:
1. I’ve dropped the Flyrant and added a 2nd Hive Tyrant with Guard
2. I’ve replaced the 4+ save on my Genestealers with Scuttling
3. I’ve dropped one of the Elite Carnifexes with 2 Lictors

Here’s the list:

HQ
Hive Tyrant; 317 points
— +1 BS, +1 Save. +1 S, Barbed Strangler, Venom Cannon
— 3 Tyrant Guard

TOTAL: 2492

I’m sure everyone on this site has played against similar lists and knows exactly what to expect. Here are the differences in play from the previous edition.

1. Genestealers: All of the Genestealers outflank (using the Lictors reserve re-rolls to get on the board faster). I get six rolls (with 2 re-rolls) on turn 2 that should net me 4 units of Genestealers coming in from the sides.

2. Lictors!: The Lictors are in the list to support my close combat (the feeding tendrils bonus is unreal). I will focus on getting the Lictors near my main Genestealer push.

STUFF I’M THINKING ABOUT:

1. Deathspitters vs Devourers: These guns are much better in 5E and won’t require me to increase the model’s BS. But they are too pricey for the Elite fex, so I’ll probably leave the Devourers in place.

2. Psychic Choir: With the number of Ork armies that I expect to see, a Psychic Choir army is tempting. But in my test games against Orks at 2000 points, Genestealers don’t have a problem beating the pants of a Boyz unit. I think I’ll just stick with winning the combat by an obnoxious amount of wounds. The extra kill points that Zoanthropes generate is also a big negative in my book.

3. To Flyrant or not to Flyrant: I still love my Flyrant and he’s a great centerpiece to any army, but he’s just not as survivable in 5E with all of the power klaws I’ve seen. At this point, I think a second walking Tyrant (with tons of Tyrant Guard) will out perform him.

4. Warriors: I’m tempted to drop one of the TMCs and add a squad of Warriors. For 112 points (around the cost of an Elite Carnifex), I can get 4 Warriors with Deathspitters and Rending Claws. And for the price of my Tyrants, I can get a squad of 8 or 9. Tempting, but the Tyrant is pretty survivable.

I don’t think the list is as much fun as my Armored Company list, but it’s a lot more survivable and a lot harder to deal with.

As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
